A Patchwork of Freedom: Underground Railroad

My short story, “Underground Railroad” published in Lori Wagner’s A Patchwork of Freedom, explores the ‘Lovely Traces’ God has left behind for us to find, so we can see that He has been working in our lives from the very beginning. From bad comes good. You just have to wait to see the bigger picture…Or in this case, the bigger mosaic of a quilt!

Isaiah 41:10: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Jeremiah. 29:11-13: “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.”

“I was consumed by a life that I made destined to crash. Beat up and bruised. By the flashbacks of my own past. I tried to hide away. Till I heard you say, ‘lovely traces fall behind you. Turn around and you will see, lovely traces to remind you, everything that you’ve been through, what it took to get you to me.’” – Krystal Meyers

True Stories. A Secret Quilt Code. Hope for Today.

A Patchwork of Freedom is the much anticipated follow-up to Lori Wagner’s Quilting Patches of Life released in 2007. This unique and creative work offers hope and encouragement through the true life experiences of Christian men and women from around the world. Contemporary stories of spiritual and emotional freedom connect with tales of escaping slaves in the pre-Civil War era through a mysterious “Underground Railroad Quilt Code.” Each chapter is titled with the name of a quilt pattern associated with the “Quilt Code” or a complementary historical design that adds dimension and spiritual application to the lessons shared by the book’s wide variety of contributing authors.

Using a bit of poetic license and the “Quilt Code” premise, A Patchwork of Freedom pieces together scraps of testimonies, fascinating bits of history, heirloom quilt patterns and Lori Wagner’s insightful vignettes in tales of emancipation sure to inspire as you work through your own patches of life.
